I just came back from seeing the movie “Julie & Julia” with a friend, featuring Meryl Streep in the role of Julia Child and Amy Adams playing the author Julie Powell, which was absolutely exquisite in many ways.

Amy Adams’ character finds her way traveling through the precise art of French cooking at the same time creating a friendship (though mainly in her heart and head) with Julia Child. Julia Child does not seem to appreciate or maybe understand the journey Amy has undertaken and which, in the end, completely transforms her life just like living in France, learning to cook, writing her book and becoming a phenomenon while changing the art of cooking in America, changed Julia Child herself.

When was the last time you cooked (really cooked following a recipe) for someone you love or like, for a stranger or just because…? Cooking is part of my DNA probably because I am French, though I rarely follow recipes, my cooking is more of the fusion kind, every so often I do follow a recipe and surprise myself in the process. Yesterday dinner was chicken breast sautéed in olive oil with salt, pepper, onion and a touch of thyme and simmered with peach/mango salsa served on a bed of sautéed kale with garlic…..It was so good….per my husband and son!!!

So, go ahead it might really be the highlight of your day, take you on a journey and in the process you might or could really touch an old friend or make a new one.

As they say on Iron Chef “Allez cuisine!!!”
